John Payne - WIP #5.75 - The Small Lighting and Hair Update

Work In Progress / 24 July 2019

Yo smaller update. I wanted to show off a new lighting set up I did. I wanted to change the lighting in a way more realistic so I got based it off the lighting of Uncharted 4. I will be adjusting it more of course. This month is just so busy with birthdays and mini vacations to relax. I am about to go on another one so the next update will still be alittle bit. I needed help with hair so I decided to enroll in the on-Demand course of Game Hair hosted by Ashley Sparling. I rushed to get these hair screenshots as they will not reflect the final product. I will tweak them and also add in the other hair like eyebrows. It really took me awhile to really get a hand of this hair. I will continue to tweak it more. Any C&C is necessary, have a nice day!  Rendered in Marmoset Toolbag.

John Payne - WIP #5.5 - The Skin Update

Work In Progress / 02 July 2019

Yo small update, I wanted to show alittle progress of me delving into the skin. I will most likely adjust the lighting for like the 70th time. I am making more colorful skin choice compared to the original. But the original concept artist, Charidimos Bitsakakis, is very gracious on offering his services on doing any tweaks needed. He is a great dude and have been helping me out. Next small update is going to focus on that hair. Not in this version. but I am adding more to the details to objects like the hat and machinery. I will be giving him alittle eye sneer at the end of the project. Again, this is my obligatory skin update. any C&C is necessary, have a nice day!  Rendered in Marmoset Toolbag.

John Payne - WIP #5

Work In Progress / 20 June 2019

Hey guys, this is the update on the John Payne Hi-poly portion of the project. I made some Keyshot renders. As usual, I've been working on it as much as I can between all these art tests! My next goal is to bring the head straight into Marmoset, which means texturing and going through the rest of the pipeline. We are like halfway there so any C&C is necessary!

John Payne - WIP #4

Work In Progress / 24 May 2019

Hey guys, just wanted to give a small update on the face of John Payne utilizing textureXYZ and manual skin detailing. Finally done moving houses which took up way more time than I expected. It is not exactly the face of the concept art but I wanted to hit a good compromise for more realistic proportions. Any C&C is welcome and thanks for checking it out!

John Payne - WIP #3

Work In Progress / 26 April 2019

Hey Y'all, It's been a minute as my per usual. This time has been nutty, art tests, setting up to move houses, its nuts! No luck on the art tests sadly but hey, we keep moving.

I didn't get as far as I hoped for when getting to this point. I am still on the road to hi-res. I only worked on primarily the upper half of the body. I still need to tatter the hat and rework some folds for the jacket, as I based it off more real reference than conceptual. I got to experiment texture XYZ on the hands so that's exciting, Most likely adjust everything by then.

Next update, hopefully a faster one, will be detailing the head more, with texture XYZ, and getting most of the body to its near complete hi-res form and out of blockout.

Any C&C is wanted and necessary, cheers! Screenshots taken from Zbrush, Thanks.

John Payne - WIP #2

Work In Progress / 14 March 2019

Hey guys! Small update. This one is pertaining towards reworking the literal mechanics of John Paynes head. I made it a little more steam-punky with Mech. It is gonna be a time to retopo but it is do-able. I will add more detail to make it more stand as metal.  I already got some feedback by a fantastic Francesco Latini: https://www.artstation.com/francescolatini on how to progress with the hat, so I will rework that. I am trying to make sure I post some progress a week. I has just been a eventful few weeks, I'll tell you what.

Any C&C is necessary and appreciated. Thanks. Screenshots were from Zbrush.

John Payne - WIP #1

Work In Progress / 28 February 2019

Hey y'all. So earlier I finally finished Sirris which was a huge relief off my shoulders. I learned to much from that project it is nuts! You can find it at: https://www.artstation.com/artwork/JlDKyD

But we cannot stop now, I am starting a new character. I will learn from what I did with Sirris and make it better and faster for this one hopefully The goal is to adapt from concept art better. I am going through real life house moving currently so that will be taking up some of my time as well.

As before, this project will be going through the entire pipeline of Concept to finalized model in Marmoset. I might invest in putting him into Unreal as well.

The new Character is going to be John Payne, which is a Steam punk sheriff of Dolly City. The concept is by the talented Charidimos Bitsakakis and I had his permission to go make a 3D model of it. He actually made this in the Artstation Wild West contest and that is long over now. But I figured it would be a great place to start from. I will try to make updates as quickly as I can. Any C&C is necessary and appreciated.

Starting off is blocking of the body and head. I am redesigning  the head mechanics to be more steam based. Still in progress of course.

Again, Concept by Charidimos Bitsakakis.

Sirris of the Sunless Realms - WIP #6

Work In Progress / 25 January 2019

It's the beginning of the end, I can feel it. I went back and focused on the lighting and more texturing. I got alittle environment planned. I am having trouble grasping Xgen honestly, but I will do it. I just want to add a few strands anyways. I wanna really get that Dark souls feel going on. So I will add the iconic bonfire to the right. She will be holding that rag, so that is why it is crusty towards the top, you wont be seeing it. We are almost there. Hair, Bonfire, Pose(s), tweaks. Boom bam jam. Any C&C is appreciate and wanted. Thanks for checking it out.

Sirris of the Sunless Realms Fanart -WIP #4

Work In Progress / 14 December 2018

Hello! It has been a bit since I have last posted, basically this update is more in the conversion from hi-poly to lo poly. Since then, I have retypologized the entire mesh. I tried to be as poly efficient as I could. I had issues with the hair so that was pushed back for a little bit later. I stuffed it into Marmoset and used Marmoset to Bake all the pieces. Spent a lot of time to get it just right, I think I need to rebake the neck cloth. Seriously, on the camera, I used substance painter and honestly baking it in marmoset is so much easier. I might give her face more definition if I could. The tris cap out at 63966 for the body without counting the sword, which is 4962 tris. once I get hair cards going I will be at a total amount. I put on some basic textures and got a Idea for the lighting. I want to try to emulate the lighting from firelink shrine, will tweak it later. I also changed her sword to be the Pontiffs Boss Sword you obtain after beating him, due to his darkmoon magic on the blade and her sense of justice against her grandpa, I figured it would be a cool choice. Time to move onto substance. Any C&C is welcome and thanks for checking this out!
